Our Most Important Choice

Our Most Important Choice

It is the choice we make every day; a thousand times a day.

How will we choose to react?

The variables include people, accidents, mistakes, successes, questions, problems, and more.

Our careers, no our entire lives, will be defined by how we react to the variables around us.

In January, Michael Hyatt posted a short film named The Butterfly Circus, which won first place in the Doorpost Film Project. The film (and more importantly the man featured) is the epitome of inspiration and courage. At the end of Michael’s post, he asked the question, “What did you take away from the movie?”

I thought about that for a long time after I finished watching. My mind started to wander, so I watched it again.

What came to me was this:
Our hearts shape our attitudes. Our attitudes shape our actions. Our actions shape our lives.

The oft-quoted and brilliant Charles Swindoll perhaps put it best:

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our attitudes.

The lesson is that we must whole-heartedly embrace a positive attitude in order to do remarkable things. Whether that be with your business or with your family, it all starts from how we react. We have an important choice…let’s make the right one and do the amazing things others aren’t willing to do.

Question: What methods do you use to embrace a positive attitude every day?

The limbless man in the film is Nick Vujicic; a truly amazing and courageous man who is an inspiration to everyone he meets. I invite you to watch more than just the film above. You can find more info about Nick at lifewithoutlimbs.org.
